Mustang High School swimmers provided admirable support for their teams during the 2009 championship season.

SPC State Swimming & Diving Championships

Mustangs at the 2009 UIL State Swimming Championship

Austin, TX on February 27-28

 

Mustang swimmers had a fantastic showing at finals bringing home a number of individual and relay medals at the State Championships held at UT-Austin. 

 

The Highland Park (HP) High School Women’s Team, fueled fully by DM swimmers, won their ninth consecutive 4A State Women’s Title. This sets a new all time record for any school in any sport in Texas – 9 straight state championships!  Congratulations to Allison Arnold, Bolton Harris, Hannah Ferrin, Delaney Rolfe, Tanner Harris & Katie Streepey in their support of the HP victory.  DM Swimmer’s had a hand in (for the second straight year) 100% of the swimming points scored by the state champions!

AND, THE SENIOR MEDAL WINNERS…

 

Matt Thompson – Jesuit Prep!

 

Matt Thompson, a Senior at Jesuit, won the Gold Medal in 100 Back in the TX-5A Championships.  Matt made it a double medal day by scoring Gold in the 200 IM. 

 

These extraordinary accomplishments were accented by Matt breaking his own all-time Texas High School Record in the 100 Back and setting a new United States High School Record in the 200 IM!

 

The double-gold represents a medaling four-peat for Matt in these two events over his four years of competition. Matt was 8 for 8 in medaling in individual events!

 

Matt will be attending Stanford University and swimming for the Cardinal in the Fall.

Hannah FerrinHighland Park!

 

Hannah Ferrin put in some great swims at the championships finishing with TX-4A Bronze Medals in the 100 Fly and 100 Back.

 

While at HP, Hannah was a member of 5 medal winning relay teams.

 

Hannah will be attending and swimming at New Mexico State University this coming school year.

Bolton Harris – Highland Park!

 

Bolton Harris capped off a great High School swim career with a Bronze Medal in the TX-4A 200 Free.  Bolton also made finals and placed 5th in the 100 Free. 

 

Bolton’s contributions to HP’s championships during her 4 years at HP cannot be overlooked.  During her tenure she made state finals in the maximum number of events allowed (8 for 8).  She was a member of 7 medal winning relay teams.

Caleb Veazey – Bryan Adams!

 

Caleb Veazey, a Senior at Bryan Adams, capped off an awesome senior season by winning double gold in the TX-4A Championships 200 & 500 Free.  During his junior year, Caleb won the Bronze Medal in the 500 Free in the Championships. 

 

Caleb will be attending Arizona State University and swimming for the Sun Devils.

AND, THE UNDERCLASSMEN WINNING MEDALS…

 

Allison Arnold – Highland Park!

 

Allison Arnold, a Junior at HP, continued on her record breaking pace she established during her Freshman and Sophomore seasons!

 

Allison won Gold medals in the TX-4A Championships in both the 200 and 500 Free.  This makes Allison 6 for 6 in Gold Medal Swims thus far.

 

She is the TX-4A record holder in both of the events!

 

Andrew North – Frisco!

 

Andrew North, a Junior at Frisco, won bronze in the TX-4A 50 Free. Andrew was also a team member on 2 of Frisco’s medal winning relay teams as well as placing 6th in the 100 Free.

 

Jacey Hodan – Rockwall Heath!

 

Jacey Hodan, Sophomore, won the Silver Medal in 100 Breast in the TX-4A Championships.  Jacey also medaled with a Silver in this event in last years championships.

Alex Huff – Frisco Wakeland!

 

Alex Huff, Sophomore, won Silver in the 100 Free in the TX-4A Championships.  She capped off a great meet by shocking the field and winning Gold in the 100 Back out of lane 7!
